CMY to Spot

Hi all,

I'm using PitStop 10 and ran into a issue where i would like to merge the CMY plates to a single spot color? I don't see any action items that work directly with plates. Is there another way for me to accomplishes this.

There really isn't any one particular action that will do this. Things like remapping colors can be done but that will only get you so far. You could try the action "Make 2 color job" and see how close that gets you.

Hi Matt,
that is would work but as I dive more into this it turns out that it much ore complicated than I thought. What I have are images that we don't want the black to print . they are cartoon logos and we are coming up with a four color black for these images. So I don't think there is any easy way around this other than recreating the logos. any thoughts?

thanks again

So how to drop the K of CMYK in images only... I suppose you could just edit the images in PhotoShop. Or, map the K plate to a spot color and not print the spot colors.

Should the black re-separate into the CMY, so that you have the "black" being made of 100% CMY... or is it just drop out the K and the existing CMY data will be all that is needed? As the current trend is to create CMYK images with a higher GCR component, simply dropping out the K data can lead to less than ideal results. If these are cartoons and you don't want four colour black - would you not wish to have single K keyline with no underlying CMY, rather than totally remove it? Perhaps I am not understanding...

basically I just re design the logs in photoshop and call it a day. I want to thank you all for you great response

My experience with making seps for comic books was to have a CMY only contone image and then a bi-tonal bitmap for the black. But that was comics...
