Delete layers

Very simply, right?
What am I missing.
I want to select a layer that contain say, "Var". Heck. I would even accept calling it exactly as it stands - Variable.
Then, I want to delete all but that layer.
I used the regular Not and And and things like that that I am used to. To no avail.
I even went so far as to assume that I knew the names of the other two layers. I did a select of layer 1 and removed it, then a select of layer 2 and removed it. Nothing happened. I have read the manual and looked
at layer templates that were included in V18. Any help would be appreciated.

I figured it out via Google. I cannot figure out how to delete this thread.
In essence I had to select the layer, then select the objects within that layer, then delete, then delete empty layers!

thanks for following up with the resolution, kaiserwilhelm … will help others in the future. :D
