The plastic casing was designed around offset printing when they came out with these machines. They did pretty well, but if they were left unattended, off, they would flat spot, causing other issues with skewing. The reason why they went to the Grey rollers was. The US market was complaining of scratching from the casing rollers that were from the Versions of the 645/646. The problem with the gray rollers is that they do not last very long no matter what you do you will fight a skew up to a quarter inch drift.I think 645 rollers are not available anymore. They had a plastic coating that would tear so they replaced on the 646 with the sponge rubber gray ones.
