Envelopes on my KM6501

Muddy

Have a customer who wants 100, 9" x 12" envelopes. Not full coverage. CMYK. We tried passing through blank ones and couldn't get them to feed. Operator is concerned about activating the glue on the flap.

We are relatively new to digital (45 years in the offset world) and have had great success with our digital offering but haven't had much luck with envelopes.

So what tips do you have?

I guess your getting a 16-02 jam code? You should have version 60 loaded to turn off the double sheet jam prevention via user mode.

We have a KM6500 (very similar to 6501) and we have had no luck with envelopes in drawers 1 through 5. Everyone we have talked to from Konica Minolta and our service guys say it won't run envelopes.
We tried anyway and they just jammed and made a mess.

However one tech said if you have the bypass feeder instead of big drawers 4 and 5 it may work.

I used to run Envelopes occasionally on my C-500, which had a bypass tray. The bypass on the 6500 is similar, so I would imagine it might work. I never had a need to run more then a couple hundred at a time, I didn't have a problem with the glue.

This machine will never feed envelopes from tray 1-3, you have two 90 degree turns so it's all against you. It will jam everytime from PF tray4 and 5 as it has a double sheet feed detection. As I mentioned earlier you will have to either get the tech to disable the sensor or upgrade the firmware so you can disable it yourself. Should you get it to feed it will almost certainly crease as the air in the envelope has no where to go.
