Hello all,

We are thinking of eliminating our Darkroom which entails having an flatbed scanner of some sort, to be able to scan positive (Paste-up Boards) of Newspaper pages. size needed to scan currently is 12 x 21.5 image.

what scanner is capable to scan that large image so as to be able to have a viable printable Digital File?

Thanks

Chris

A scanner that big is not going to come cheap. But if you go that route, you will likely be taking on a lot of opaquing of paste up lines due to the proximity and angle of the light source. Look into a high resolution digital camera that would work at a distance from the copy, allowing you to place the lights for more even coverage.

But why on earth are you still doing paste ups???

Thats a good question but althought 98% of our print jobs are 100% Digital, we also are a printer for the surrounding area's Weekly Newspaper and Shoppers, who, sadly are still doing it the old-fashioned way. And perhaps will be doing that forever and as a Newspaper with an Pressline, need all the Commercial Work available, we have to still deal with Positives. I wish I didn't but thats the way it is. i was trying to see what others do that still deal with positives.
