G7 plate curve

Is G7 just a plate curve (with dot gain figured in)? If we had an older curve that was great for us, could we use it as long as it passed the G7 tests?

Thanks,
Linda

G7 is a methodology used to arrive at the plate curves used to produce a defined gray, and the proper tone response (NPDC) of C,M,Y, and K. Theoretically, you could use existing curves if they allowed you to meet the criteria for G7 calibration. The fact that you mention the singular form, curve, leads me to believe that this would be highly unlikely. Normally, all 4 curves need to be adjusted separately to achieve a G7 calibrated state.
