General digital press question...

Today, it struck my supervisor that digital press can actually print dot-pattern proofs and he thought he was looking at wet-proofs. I'm aware of HP's Indigo, but what are some other popular digital presses with similar capabilities?

A lot of the higher end models do have this ability. Off the top of my head, I know the Canon imagePRESS C7000VP series can print using a line or dot pattern.

Is it safe to say these digital presses are running on RIPs similar to GMG? I take it this is strictly a software-driven output feature and not hardware?

Speaking from what I own, a Xerox 8000AP will print the following line screens
150 Clustered Dot
200 Clustered Dot
200 Rotated Line Screen
300 Clustered Dot
600 Clustered Dot
Stochastic

As for RIP's you have a choice of 3, Xerox Free Flow Server, EFI Fiery EX or Creo CX.

It's my understanding that most of the time these are hardware/engine capabilities, not specific to the RIP driving.

C6500 doesn't have this unless your looking for it on the engine. The fiery has a graphics art option that allows you to apply halftone screening and use any angle's you like for each plate.
