Does anyone have any insights on printing with glow in the dark inks in a printing unit?
I have a customer that is looking into the application on one of their packages.
Our current ink supplier doesn't have an option for litho ink, only flexo.

Chromatic Technologies would be the approriate source.

Most ink companies won’t really sell it as the demand just isn’t as popular as it once was. It’s all about volume that you can put on the sheet - the more hits, the better (anticipate 3 hits). Some companies when printing these projects have opted to go UV Screen, depending the art.

I have no experience printing with it, but have been asked by a client about adding the effect to a book cover. I reached out to a rep/friend from a book component printer (covers, dust jackets, etc...) and this was his advice:

"Company X does a great job of it.

It’s not cheap

Glow in the dark ink is a waste of money. There is not enough of the glow material to make it really visible except in extreme low light and even then it will be pale.

Glow in the dark spot UV works really well because screen printing allows for added volume. You can screen print over or under film lamination. Over matte film, it looks like spot gloss in day light but glows strong in the dark. Over gloss film, it’s hard to see in the light but is visible. Gloss or matte film has makes no difference on the amount of glow when dark. Putting glow UV under film lam “sort of” hides it until the lights go out.

Keep in mind glow in the dark UV should not bleed or run over a fold. It will crack in both cases. It can also be applied on a soft cover without film lamination
