How to access DOS on QMDI Pro?

Hello,
Could someone please tell me how to access the DOS screen on a QuickMaster DI Pro? I am told I need to use a Keyboard with a DIN plug but I cannot find where to plug it in! Our press has a touchscreen and no mouse or conventional keyboard. If I connect to the PS2 port on the tower inside, I can do no more than enter the BIOS settings. After booting Heidelberg s/w the keyboard does absolutely nothing. Also the BIOS settings are password protected so I can't see if the keyboard is perhaps disabled.

Thanks for any help.

PS real problem is after rebuilding the RIP the DI shows a RIP logon error but I have no idea what the settings were before it failed. Have reinstated the normal BITMAP share with UNSKEWED folder in it and QM_RIP1 network name etc. but to no avail. Although I can see Quickmaster (the DI) on the network neighbourhood.

For console access:
Use the PS/2 keyboard and keep pressing SHIFT while it boots.
It will not logon and run the program.
But you need a username (and password) to logon...
It may can be found in DefaultPassword key in the registry.

Hi spapa,
Thanks for that info, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Could I use QM_PRESS1 to log in?
Otherwise I don't see how I'll be able to access the registry without a login - I was assuming it automatically drops into DOS without loading the Windows GUI?

I may be way off here since we haven't had a DI since they DID run under DOS, but doesn't the DI Pro use Windows XP? If that's the case it doesn't run under DOS. You can bring up a DOS window within XP, but it's not true DOS.

I know this may not help, but I figured I'd throw it out there in case you were barking up the wrong tree.

Good Luck,
Dave

I've no experience with the QMDI Pro, however if it uses either windows XP or 2000 instead of DOS it should be easy to retrieve username + Password.

Plenty of tools such as Ophcrack are designed to retrieve windows passwords by booting to a CD instead of the hard drive

You can mount the 2,5'' disk in a linux system and make a copy (backup) if required [HIGHLY RECOMMENDED before start messing around], or mount it to an other windows installation and "load hive" temporary into registry, so you can edit something if required...etc

Of course there are other possibilities, e.g. clear the Administrator password or create a new administrator account etc (Google is your friend on that).

I am sure Heidelberg have disabled the keyboard in the BIOS, which is password protected. There's no CD to boot from to use password recovery tools. So it looks like I'll have to take out the hard drive and examine its contents on another PC. That looks like a lot of hassle though and it's probably SCSI.

Surely someone out there has a QMDI Pro and can tell me what user/network settings their RIP uses?

Please right click on your OUTPUT folder to see what its sharing properties are. And at the command prompt type NET USE and let us know what comes back.

If you could type IPCONFIG in a command prompt that would be very useful as well.

There's no support for this product from Heidelberg UK or Presstek Europe - QMDI users need to unite!!
Many thanks.

Thanks to the forum for all your help. I now have it working. I re-read all the documentation and this morning, set the RIP's Press Network IP address to 2.1.1.2, added a Power User called RIP and now everything is working.

(Thanks to Anthony at QMDIPRESS.COM for pointing me in the right direction to find the setup manual on the Delta Tech install CD)
