I wish to make a square punch on a book size A5. Wish to punch 40mm x 40mm square shape. Book is approximately 40mm thick. My client wants to keep a sample bottle in that square hole. How do I do punching? What kind of punch tool or die do I need?

You need to purchase a punching machine and die. You can punch no more than 20 sheets in each lift, probably less. Please contact me for the options we have to offer.

You saw the size of the hole he wants to cut, right? About 1.5" x 1.5". This is not your basic punching machine for binding books. He needs a die cutter like a kluge or a Heidelberg cylinder press.

So your looking to punch a 1.5x1.5 inch hole in a stack of paper that 1.5 inches tall . . . you either need to punch it before it is bound or get a 20 or 30 ton punch press like they use in metal manufacturing . . . thats a whole lotta punching going on . . . .

Yes! I need to punch a finished book because if i punch loose papers or sections, I may not be able to align the punched hole while binding.. A power press seems a reasonable proposition. I have seen envelope punching cutting a thick stack. I am not aware of envelope business. Anybody, any idea on how and with what tool steel they make punching dies? any services available for dies? I have a 10 tonne power press. May try that. will be grateful for help.

I wouldn't try to punch the whole book together. There is going to be draw from the knife blade that cuts it and if you're cutting a hole in the middle of the book, there's nowhere for that paper to go as the knife blade gets thicker.

Your cuts don't have to be 100% exact either. Just flex the book in your hands and the shape of the hole will shift. A few microns here or there shouldn't be an issue.

I still think you need to die cut the holes.
