We are doing a lot of High School saddle stitched football programs - and of course either parents or teachers are building them . . . I keep having to build 48 or 52 or 88 or 92 page dummys for them - is there anything that will automate this ?????

I was in the exact same situation as you for many, many years. There are scripts out there for InDesign that will let you create dummies by basically imposing pages however you specify.

We had one that worked great. We told it how many total pages, how many pages in the signatures, etc. and it would just crank out a dummy you could print and fold up. I'm going to have to do some checking to see if I can remember which one it was and where we got it, but if you google "imposition script indesign" I bet you can find it. That's how I found it.

Found some - thanks but then the light bulb went on - just sent a 48 book to our signa station . . gonna have em send me back a pdf . . duhhhhhh

I use our RIP when I can.
Otherwise, put a blank box on every page to size (do this from master page and then override master page items). Have you file ready as 1-up PDFs, import the PDF, but select "all" from the import options. **Make sure you do NOT have anything selected when you go to import!
then, your mouse will turn into a little page thumbnail, go through page by page and click on your boxes 1-N.
works pretty well!

Should be able to automate that with an appropriate script:

Adobe - InDesign Scripts
