Improved Environmental Printing Practices In Asia

During my time in Asia, specifically China & Taiwan, I have witnessed rapid change in the environmental practices of the printing industry as the world rushes to go green.

Here are some practices that are now extensively employed, at least in the larger and/or export orientated printing companies.

1. Widespread use of CTP for pre-press operations
- Elimination of photo-chemicals Saves water and energy
2. Establishment of solvent recycling program
- Saves material, Reduces air pollution
3. Use of alcohol-free printing
- Improves air quality, Improves worker health and safety, Reduces chemical use
4. Printing on recycled content papers
- Saves tree, energy, and water, Encourages new agricultural development, Keeps paper out of the landfill
5. Education of local customers on "green printing"
- Printers produce a "greener" product, Helps in pollution prevention, compliance, resource conservation
6. Use low VOC inks
- Reduces air pollution, Improves employee safety
7. Implementation of Environmental Management Systems 1400 & 14001 - Practices and procedures for prevention & control of waste water and emissions
