InDesign CS4

We have InDesign installed on multiple computers, but one computer seems to have problems with linked images. The images are linked from another computer on the network and at random times (on only this one computer) InDesign will crash and the file becomes corrupted. The links all show that they are missing after rebooting. If you try to re-link or re-place the link it gives a message stating something like "Not having permission to access the file or the file does not exist". The linked files can be placed into new documents but will not work in the original corrupted file.

If we embed all links it doesn't crash and we don't have a problem. We have reinstalled CS4 multiple times and other than this issue the computer doesn't seem to have any issues. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem is related to how that particular computer is connected to the network and configured. I experience the same issue with InDesign crashing. In my case it is because of packet collisions on the network which leads to read write failures. When it crashes for you, what is the exact error message as displayed on screen?

Here are a few things I would try if I was tasked with fixing your issue:
- Reinstall InDesign, but on a brand new user profile.
- Re-add the computer to the domain and re-setup its permissions.

Try logging in as a different user on that Mac and see if that helps. Chances are, you have a corrupted user pref.

hi
are you saving file and images in different systems?
if so, make sure the system where you saved image is connected with your system before you open the file. or make a shared folder to save files along with images. Best practice is always store files along with images.
