InDesign Export > PDF huh?

Hi,
I just noticed a exported PDF (without color conversion in setting) from InDesign turned a 100% black text into a 280% rich black! Huh?!

Postscript > Distiller version is fine.

Any idea?

seems like you got colour management or are forcing rich black in the prefs.

Color management is off in mine presets. I also have output color accurately in Indy's preference and not the default rich black.

I'm completely puzzled since it I can't replicate the problem on a new document. Did I missed something hidden?

Was the text RGB or Auto to start with?

Nope, text is set to black in file... although I think both files that I had a problem with came from same designer–still doesn't explain why auto rich black conversion would occur.

In the PDF separations preview you can view Device CMYK, RGB, LAB etc
Is your text visible when you view only device black?
What are the colour management settings in the PDF joboptions? Somettimes a designer will include ICC profiles turning CMYK into Cal CMYK, thinking they are doing you a favour.
Also check transparency flattening space that it is not RGB.

PDF separation shows color in all four channels for text. Also Transparency blending is CMYK not RGB.

Have to chalk this one up as a rare/strange case, because I can't replicate the problem on the very same file now.

In your application preferences there is an option for how to deal with black. Do you want to display it accurately or rich? Same for exporting PDF. Change it to "accurate". By default, at least the way I've seen it on several machines, is for black to display as and export as "rich".

Correct, default setting was rich black. This isn't the root of the problem though. I exported the same file one with "rich" and another with "accurate" black selected. I still can't replicate what caused the original 4C conversion.
