Knowing more about your setup would be helpful. Here are some questions:
1. It sounds like you have multiple Mac's where you are. Are the specs (model year, model) of the other Mac's NOT having this problem the same as yours?
2. Do the other Mac's have the same macOS version as yours?
3. Do the other Mac's have the same InDesign version installed as yours?
4. Are the InDesign preferences on the other Mac's configured the same as yours?
5. When you connect to the server you mention, how exactly do you connect? Do you have aliases of the network shares somewhere that you double-click to access the server?
6. Which network protocol is used to connect to the server from your Mac's? If you're not sure, click once on one of the mounted network shares on your desktop and choose Get Info. Towards the top of the Get Info window should be a "Server" listing and next to it should show which network protocol you are using. It will likely start with either SMB or AFP (but there may be others).
7. Are you able to ascertain what sort of server you are connecting to? Is it a Windows-based server?
8. If you are unable to determine the answers to the above, do you have an IT person/department that could help you with this?
