When I send a file to my CTP plate house and receive my 4 CTP plates am I able to request infomation reguarding the total compressed image area into a solid of each color ( C M Y K ) in either square inches or millimetres ?

Not sure if this would help you calulcate the results you're looking for.

We have an online application (available as a free service) that will report on the percentage CMYK of a PDF.

Many RIPs have the ability to save out ink usage data when processing the imposed plate. Check with your plate house to see if that is an option. I know that Rampage does have an Inkzone option.

We have already been down that track, but its the calculations after that , which is the tricky bit.
