Ink charging

We are somewhat new to digital print and we have a couple grand format roll to roll printers. I am wondering how other companies track/charge for their ink consumption. Does ink get job costed for every job?
Is there some mechanism on the printers that keeps track of the ink usage?
Is ink just treated as a supply item that is just lumped into the overhead of the department?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

welcome to Digital Printing. Instead of worrying about how much ink you put on the paper and how much the ink cost, in Digital Printing you worry about a Cost per Page provided by the vendor.

The Cost per Page or Cost per Click will include all your supplies (toners, cartridges, etc) and service (parts and labor) for a few cents, usually regardless of how much you print. This is how digital printing is typically priced out.
