The Ghent Workgroup (GWG) has announced the International Standards Organization—ISO—has adopted its guidelines, internationally, for standardizing & automating packaging workflows—a major step in automating packaging workflows based on the PDF file format.
The Ghent Workgroup identified years ago that a lack of standardization in the processing steps contained in PDF documents, was a hindrance to the acceptance of PDF as the standard packaging workflow format. Their specification uses metadata attached to PDF layers to convey workflow processing steps. Their proposal has now been adopted as international standard ISO 19593-1. The new standard is expected to dramatically reduce manual intervention and minimize human error.
