KM 6500 / Creo Issue

I have a 6500 with the Creo rip. If I print something with crop marks, say an 8.5x11 2up on 12x18, the crop marks are not right. Instead of 8.5 it is 8.45, and instead of 11, it's 10.95. It happens whether I impose on the Creo itself, or impose using a 3rd party software.

I was talking with a Creo specialist and he had me do some things to the Creo, including upgrade from 1.0 firmware to 2.0, but still happens. This leads him to believe it's the 6500 shrinking the image somewhat.

Is there any setting or something that could make this happen and make the 6500 shrink the image? Has anyone else had this problem?

Is the third party imposition software on the rip or on a desktop being sent to the rip? Do other items without imposition shrink? I find it hard to believe it's the 6500, sounds like software to me.

its on a desktop being sent to the rip. I just printed a sheet with no impo, and it shrank a hair. but it was still through the creo so i cant judge the problem

ok, doing this from memory so may be slightly wrong. Machine screen -> adjustment screen -> machine adjustment -> centering adjustment. Print the test chart on ledger or something and check the measurements match the test chart I have attached. If they do, the issue is not your engine.

I tried that and it wouldn't let me print a chart. Called my service guy, he said it's only in service mode where you can print a chart.

I made some crops (8.5x11) on another machine and copied it off the glass of the C6500, it only shrank by a 1/64th.

Think that could cause the 12x18's to be off or does this mean the Creo is to blame?

Well your service gut is wrong. Do you have a user guide? The POD guide is what you want. The centering adjustment is in there. Out of interest when you go to the paper tray setting does it allow you to adjust the centering fom there? Is there a button with offset adjustment?

I got to the centering adjustment you were talking about, but when I printed the chart it came out blank. Then I called my tech and he said it's blank except for service mode or something.

I'll check the paper setting in a bit, machine is running.

It is blank because the last time they did a test print from service mode they did not reset the K to 255, common mistake Try and do the test chart again but chose full color.

The extra setting mode allows you to adjust...

Centring
Lead edge timing
Horizontal Magnification
Vertical Magnification
Increase/Decrease Fuser temperature
Change the transfer offset adjustments

To name a few and then store them to a specific stock in the paper catalogue. This is automatically transferred to your fiery/creo and you can select it. Also you can execute the chart adjustment, which will adjust for paper stretch and skew (it will print skew if required). If you master this adjustment (it's a bit jinglish) you be able to accurately back up any stock perfectly.

If you do not have these options you should tell them to turn them on. There is no reason that you shouldn't have these options. If they won't PM me and I will give you instructions.

In Machine Adjustment I have:
Restart Timing
Centering
FD Mag
CD Mag

In Paper Setting I have:
Type
Weight
Both Sides Adjust
stuff like speed/air assist

None of that other stuff. He's supposed to be coming today, I'll ask when he gets here.

It's in the machine.......it is free.......we solve many many problems with this turned on. It would take him 2 seconds to activate it.

he didnt turn it on. any reason the image would be getting shrunk that you can think of?

No not really, thats why you need to print that chart to see if it is in fact the engine. It could be massive paper shrinkage but I very much doubt it.
