KM C5501 - large capacity tray - heater/de-humidifier

Our Production Department recently acquired the C5501 a couple of months ago. In their effort to minimize costs, they opted to fore go the Large Capacity Tray LU-202. Now, they realize that it will make life a lot easier and want to add it to the existing lease.

One of the options for the LU-202 is the heater/de-humidifier. Is it necessary? Can anyone provide some feedback that might shed some light on this? Thanks.

Works best if you are running lots of the same stock and you keep the "idle" tray topped up, otherwise the machine will stop while the paper is coming up to temperature. You can turn that behaviour off, but then that defeats the object. We rarely have paper handling problems related to the trays, but then we don't have a machine without this option, so I can't give you contrasting experience.

We do have problems with lightweight stock jamming when the machine has been running solid for many hours. It seems to simply be heat build up and letting it cool off for a short while sorts that.

BTW - at the risk of being a bit flippant - it's such a cheap option, why are you even thinking about it? It's a couple of days click charges tops!

PS - sorry just realised you're talking about a 5501, but I think the above will apply to that as well as a 6501?

so your feeding heavy stock via the bypass. Sounds painfull. Like lfelton says, don't think about it and get it. The money you waste spoon feeding it will soon be recoverd.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate you taking the time. Yes, the cost of it is quite trivial in the grand scheme of things, but the head of the department insists on absolute justification for any "extra" costs. Hence, why we are adding the LCT now, after the fact.

Thanks again. I'll be ordering the unit today.

The heater/humidifier's MAIN purpose is to keep your stock in an consistent heat and humidity environment.
this will reduce the need to unload stock that you may not need to run every day.
It will also help, not FIX, but HELP if you are running your KM in an environment outside the sepcified limits.
Fluctuations in heat AND/OR humidity will affect your output GREATLY.
