Kodak and Preps

Does anyone know what it takes to get someone at Kodak to sell Preps? We're trying to purchase an upgrade to our old Preps 2.3 and no one at Kodak is interested in responding to our queries. Do you have to go through a third party?

Don't know about third party, but you can always put on a Jack Sparrow's hat and sail toward your happiness if you know what I mean.
Btw preps 2.3 really? Omg, I recently worked with shop wich used preps 4 and I thought those guys were unbeateable

Preps 9.x is the current version, be ready for a massive learning curve.
Kodak is more interested in selling the complete solution, selling a single license won't be a priority for them, it was easier when it was Scenicsoft.
See if you can track down your local Kodak rep and ask for a quote, they have to go through the whole process of quote & contract.

They are NOT selling a stand alone license anymore.
We purchased an 'update' for our single license when we got Prinergy (3+yrs) and it has been a disaster for 'licensing' issues.
They have made it cheaper to pay for a floating license that has a recurring fee than pay for the 'support' contract on the stand alone license.
So you should NOT ask me about this software company or the other, dreaded, A$%#e .
RANT.
Sigh.

We ran into the same thing when we were facing an imposition upgrade last summer. We were on Metrix 2013 standalone (single license), but Metrix has since been absorbed into EFI, and standalone pricing was next to impossible to obtain (and pretty pricy once we finally got a quote).

Here are some options we explored (note--some of these stand alone pretty well, but may or may not work well for your shop, and some others only really sold as part of a larger prepress installation):

Devalipi Imposition Studio
Heidelberg Signa Station
Tilia Labs Phoenix
Ultimate ImpoStrip

Thanks to everybody for their advice. We had pretty much arrived at the same conclusion: whatever business Kodak is in now, it doesn't seem to involve customer service or the graphics industry. Perhaps they're anticipating a resurgence of film.

We're going with Apogee Impose. If we can load it onto a 1985 Commodore Amiga...

Preps standalone license is buy at local Kodak representative. Standalone license isn't connected through dongle. It's software licence connected to your computer. FLIM license use is just in case if you have EVO or Workflow and share licence beetwen different computers.

That USED TO BE the case. Now the standalone LICENSE HAS to be on the server if you want it to integrate to Prinergy - which is one of it's most useful features.
Believe me that we, and Kodak support, tried to get it to work for MONTHS to no avail.
They then tried to CHARGE ME for the time it took for their software to fail to act as they thought it should. hahahahahhaha.

If you have FLIM on Prinergy EVO or Prinergy Workflow, Preps is be installed on separeted PC or MAC. That must work. If Kodak representatitve not solve that, change support. Or maybe I don't understand your problem

To be integrated with Prinergy Preps has to installed on the server but you can install it on as many Windows/Macs clients as you please but you will be limited on how many can be running at once based on the number of licenses you have. You really don't ever use the install of Preps on the server but Prinergy does and that is where the configs, marks, and templates are stored. Kodak recommends not messing with or running the install of Preps on the Prinergy server.
