Hi guys,
We are looking to buy a digital printer for an offset print shop. (We had just 2 colour offset so far)
we got an offer to lease a Konica minolta C5501 for $350 5 year lease or a new 1060L (limited) for $720

I know that cash flow is important for new businesses an the 5501 is cheap but it's also old. I know know the resolutions is only 600 DPI vs 1200 PDI but im not sure if anyone will notice the difference.

Please advise.
Thank you!

Hi,

I would definitely go for the 1060 if I would be in your shoes. Your customers demand offset quality, and you will likely loose them if you produce the low-volume jobs on an inferior machine. I spent this summer evaluating current machines from all vendors, and found the 1060/1070 to be the most "offset like" of the offerings. Also, it can easily reach FOGRA/GRACOL specs with proper calibration. Most of your clients won't even notice the change in the production path.

Copiers (or digital presses) are only good when new, avoid the old one.
Maintenance will be your biggest concern, so be sure you get good techs from the company maintaining your equipment.
