Laminated cards cutting

Happy new year to all members!

I have a question on laminated business cards cutting.

The job was printed on munken polar 400gr stock - both sides -

It was laminated, and now we try to cut it, the cards on one or two sides, are cut like they were cut with an old knife - the other two or three sides are clear -

The ''cutter'' says that laminated cards are impossible to be cut with the knife we cut all our jobs, and we should die cut them for a clear result on all sides...

I cut as well from time to time, to help production flow, but it's not my job, and i can't quite judge whether he's right or wrong.

It's a polar knife, don't remember the model, it's one you see in many shops with an external monitor to enter values or cutting programs.

I know that a die cut will produce better results, but i also believe that you can produce a descent result on a regular knife.

What do you think?

Are the cards butt cut (no gutter)? If so splitting that cut results in 1 edge looks clean but the stack on the front edge of the knife looks like a dull blade. Can't do anything about it but die cut or use a slit wheel type machine.

Always cut with the job behind the blade and the waste in front. If you cut with the job in front of the blade, it will result in a rough edge.
