hello people ...

i am looking for a docucolor 242 , used , in close-to-perfect condition with few copies on the meter ...

we need to set up in our company a printing-on demand and this seems to be a good solution ... our needs are small ... few hundreds a month to 1-2K TOP ..

we can not enter a formal production with a print shop, as our artworks change almost every 15 days ... so, everytime we order 1000 or 2000 copies, we lost 75% of them ...

we would like to buy a very good unit .
any sugestion where to buy that ??? or any suggestion on other one than the 242 ??

we are a telecom company, we have gfew knowledge on this area.
your suggestion would ne very very appreciated ... this forum seems to be a pro one.

Hi Eloy.

Good decision on choosing a Xerox for your printing needs. It will be a good choice to the amount of volume you are doing at present. Perhaps looking for a 252 or a 260 would be a better choice.
The 252 and 260 models are far more superior and are now more reasonably priced than they used to be. Also it will give you scope for higher volume as your printing needs demand (and they will). The 260 is also slightly better in production of special stocks and can seem to handle them better.

The front to back registration can be mastered with some simple techniques that require a little initial setup and correct paper handling for manual duplex heavyweight stocks.
There is no reason for bad F2B regi on these machines as they can be excellent.

Depending on what RIP (DFE) you use, the FreeFlow is the simplest yet the most powerful one to use. Also as you appear to be a telecoms company, the variable data and VIPP/PML features of the FreeFlow are going to suit your business needs as well as marketing demands.

Err on the side of a little more in price, as quality remains long after price is forgotton.

Get a good technician and also a FSMA agreement to take the hassle of service and consumables out of your hair, as such.

Good luck hunting.. :)

Eloy - a couple of points.

If you want to set up a print room, then go for it. However, if you'd rather stick to your core business, then go out and find a printer that's arrived in the 21st century already (we're in a different continent, so I can't be accused of touting for business). If you partner with a company like us, we have software that allows you to check in electronic artwork, call it off through a web app to be drop shipped wherever you want (white label or branded) in any quantity that you want. Orders are literally scheduled and placed in our production queue in real time. For the more technically advanced, we have a REST API that allows our clients to integrate their web app directly with our production facility. Completely "lights out" order processing that way. Ask around, there's bound to be lots of printers like us in the US, probably some that are a few years ahead of us.

Second point, we used a Xerox 250 (almost identical to 242, 252) for a year when we were just starting in digital and put on a million clicks in the year we had it. Loved it, just outgrew it. Stochastic may be much more experienced with this box, but we (and Xerox) could never get it to have reliable FTB registration on coated stocks. Uncoated was reasonably ok.

I have a Xante

I have a Xante

Everything you need to start a small or home based print operation. I have been doing exclusively letterhead and envelopes but, am getting out of the printing business.
I have:
-2009 Xante Illumina DEP 4 color digital press, runs most envelopes and other paper stock up to 15pt laser-safe board 18.9"Wx47"L. only 35,000 impressions
-replacement fuser, transfer belt, toner cartridges, and imaging drums.
-Color management software, with job preview, cost analysis, file manipulation, and quality control features.
-2010 Perfect 19" electric guillotine paper cutter.
-5000 sheets of 11x17 #60 Husky offset (enough for 10,000 letterhead)
-5,000 Athens #10 envelopes
-1,000 Western Sulphite #10 envelopes

All you need is a computer and a way to generate templates (I use Adobe CS3), and you are set.
I am willing to negotiate price, but please no low-ballers or scammers.
I am listing photos of the Xante and can send you additional photos if you like.
