we are a wholesale printer that works with alot of brokers so we are 2 or 3 steps from the end user sometimes. are we the mail owner or are we a mailing agent. it seems to make a difference when doing the paper work.

Unless you are mailing a job for yourself (as in a mailing to advertise your own services), you are the mailing agent. Even if you are mailing on your own permit, for a job from one of your customers, on their behalf, you are still the mailing agent.

I hope this helps.

If you do both; mailing for others and mailings for yourself, set up different MID's with the USPS or your scorecard will be dinged.

We have gotten By/For dings before when we mail for ourself, but our BMEU agent couldn’t tell us why. Could you elaborate?

Mail service providers as listed in the USPS system can't be mail owners. Set up a second MID/CRID as any other company is when you need to do your own mailings to avoid that ding. Dispute it when it happens because they know about the flaw, and watch for it because your new MID/crid will get changed without notice.

There are several other reasons for the BY/for error If you are several levels away from the actual mail owner make your own crid mid for them becouse there is no way to see who is listed as a mail service provider on line.
