more RAM for Fiery Print server?

wonderings

Well-known member
We have a new Versant 2100 with Fiery RIP. I was wondering, would adding RAM increase performance? It has 4 gigs of RAM which by todays standards is really low. Would I see any improvements by upgrading say to 8 gigs of RAM or even 16 when it comes to processing jobs?

The last time I upgraded RAM on a Fiery I was told it was propitiatory RAM and HAD to be purchased through EFI at an EXTREMELY OUTRAGEOUS price.

Don't purchase your own RAM, as it will probably void your warranty, service contract and all sorts of things. If you want an upgrade, you'll have to fork it over.

We've asked EFI this question before and the answer is that the hardware/software is already configured for optimal performance. If you feel that it is not ripping fast enough or is sluggish, taking too long to refresh or build thumbnails etc then you probably have other issues that should be able to be addressed by your Xerox Fiery analyst.

Things work fine, was just wondering if more RAM would make things even better. RAM is such a cheap and easy upgrade, I had to ask. The one thing I wish they would start using is SSD's. Any computer, even with a great processor seems like a turtle in comparison to a computer with an SSD.
