Need Advice & Reviews - Leasing a new light Production Press

We used to have Konica Minolta. It is overkill for us, I think. Anyone feedback is welcome.

You can get an Konica Minolta higher end office unit with a Fiery on it...consider the bizhub C659 or C759. They both support 300gsm through the bypass, offer a high capacity paper deck, and you can add all of the common finishing. Make sure to request an ES-2000 spectrophotometer so you can match the spot colors as you mentioned, along with keeping your printer calibrated for best color output.

In case anyone was wondering, we have had a demo of Ricoh C5200s and Canon ImagePress C650. After comparison, the C5200 is definitely better quality. I was surprised. So I was about to commit to it when my Canon dealer told me that the ImagePress is being re-released.... ImagePress C710. (the C910 series). So now i'm waiting for them to get it after April 20 to demo that one.

So still not sure what direction I'm going in.

If you are new to printing regardless of the machine partner with someone who; has placements in the field locally, (service techs should have some knowledge of issues or best practices), vendors who know how to set presets and calibration correctly up for you, and last but most important be a partner. If they will see your job on a table and then go to that customer and steal them from you, they are not your partner. Now I am assuming you are working with a Ricoh and Canon dealer. That is not necessarily a bad thing. I have done both and it is really going to depend on the sales rep, the tech and the service manager. I would ask to speak with a service manager and get whatever you want/need in writing from him. Most sales reps don’t know production and some just want the sale.

We have a km c3070 and if you are considering one it will easily handle your volume. We aren't a big volume either...probably double yours, but I'm sure it could cope with much more than we throw at it. Get the air paper decks...We haven't and wish we did.
we do have I've the iq501 and it's brilliant. We came from a 6501 which moved all over the place. A lot of our booklets have images over the spine and the registration is litho like. I cant comment on the newer offerings from other vendors though. Good luck

Hey all, Just wanted to update. We were about to go with Ricoh 5200s until Canon released a new machine... the ImagePress C910. So were are now going with that but the 710 speed - They are giving us a great price. Thanks for all your help. I really do appreciate it.

After 6ish months, how do you feel about your decision to go with the C710? We are currently evaluating the same 2 machines, Ricoh C5200 and the Canon C710 and would love to hear your feedback.

Ricoh has an amazing print production specialist who would spend 2 days in our shop setting up the machine and training us specific to our needs where as Canon is sold and serviced by a dealer who don't have a production specialist on staff. The Canon machine would be setup by the tech who would also provide limited training on the basics of the machine. The advantage to the Canon is that their tech is local and Ricoh's tech is a day or 2 away.

I would like some advice if you the time to answer...
We recently purchased a konica 4070 with IQ installed. I would like to ask how accurate is the IQ, regarding the back front registration?
Personally I cannot say that I am particularly happy with the deviations of the accuracy.. I mean devations about 1mm are quite common to our jobs..
Are these normal? I have the impression that something was not installed correctly in our machine..

Hi Danos, we have found the registration extremely good. Occasionally it does go out and triggers the warning to remove 5 sheets, but that might be a paper size issue. I've seen a few people say it's not needed but i think it's great - sounds like you may have an issue. I know there are a few KM guys on here - how you find them not sure though! Maybe they would have an insight.

The IQ-501 is not new, it was available with the previous engine (C3070/C3080), as such is now a mature device.
We haven't got it on our C4080 however have found the registration both accurate and stable, after scanning the front & back registration for substrate and tray.
