OK, we currently have a 2007 Screen 8600e 11pph output.
We need to increase output so a faster machine is in our future.

We have a 6/40 Komori and a 8/40 Perfector UV Komori.

Do we go for laser diode or GLV?

Do we keep the older machine as backup?

Do we by new or refurb?

BTW we are running Fuji LHPJ.

If you like Screen CtP you may consider staying with this brand. There is Screen PlateRite PTR-8600S that boasts 64-laser diodes (your CtP has 16 diodes) and is capable of printing 20 plate per hour. If this productivity level is not sufficient, you may look into a Screen with GLV laser technology or a fast Kodak CtP like Magnus 800 with VF or X laser head.
Another area that you should look into while buying a CtP system is plate loading. Automatic plate loading will save time of your pre-press specialist (he will be able to perform different tasks instead of loading plates manually). It will not significantly increase the throughput of you system though.
When you decide to get a pre-owned CtP it is essential to get a reconditioned one, rather than a system that comes directly from an end-user. What works for one printer may not be good for others and bringing a CtP to full functionality on your site can be very costly. It is best to buy a reconditioned system from someone that will also install it, give you warranty and ideally offer post-sales technical support.
