NEW OR USED MACHINE

Hello All,

Was wondering, when looking at a production copy machine. At what copy count does is machine considered new vs a demo or used unit.
10,000 or maybe 50,000. Dealer says its a new unit but it has over 100,000 copies on it. Thanks for any input on this. To me this is a used unit which should come with a used price.

The circumstances and the environment (and the 'culture' of operation) are great factors. I see demo machines with large clicks in pristine shape. They were used in very clean, controlled environment, fed with only rated papers, and the tiniest problem was solved within hours using the right procedures. Compare this with real production, where some folks beat the machines like dogs and they're used way after developing problems - just because of the enormous pressure of making profit. IMHO buying a demo machine can be a very good proposition.

100k is nothing. Example: 100,000 in 1 week = 20,000 a day (5 days) = 2,500 hr (8 hrs) = 42 per minute. A that rate the machine isn't even working hard.

100k on the clock is likely to be a showroom model being moved on to make way for something new.
It's certainly not "new" - our KM C4080 had 0000507 on the clock when new.
Don't be put off though, in fact to the contrary. As others have pointed out, 100k is a tiny number in context and an ex-dem machine will have been well looked after so that every demo it gave was perfect. Rather like buying an ex-dem vehicle, they can be the best bargains.

I agree with the above. I used to sell production gear for Konica Minolta. That is a normal click amount for when we sold our "demo" machines. However, the price should reflect that...meaning we didn't sell it at the same price as a brand new one from the warehouse. Don't fear buying a demo machine. They are generally very well cared for, gently used, and only sold when a new model comes out. We would have a tech go through the machine regularly so it was performing at it's best during demos.

Just make sure you run some prints on it in person before the purchase so you don't have any surprises.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I'm trying to say I won't pay a new price on a demo unit. Yet they are saying its new.
I won't buy a car with a 10,000 miles on it brand new price. Just wondering at what page count do you expect a discount from the new price?

If it is brand new, I can't see why there would be more than a couple of thousand on the clock, certainly not without some explanation.
If it's got 100k, it's either ex dem or been pulled from a site where it's hardly been used, for whatever reason. Probably the former.
What make & model is it?
What's your location on the globe? You're with a dealer as opposed to OEM - do you have an existing relationship?
