new versions

sorry for the long post but this is what I received from Heidelberg.

Greetings from Heidelberg,

We are pleased to announce the release of Prinect Version 10 workflow software. Depending on your existing configuration, this upgrade includes Prepress Manager (formally known as Printready), Pressroom Manager,SignaStation, MetaDimension, MetaDimension Shooter, and PDF Toolbox. Please reference the attached PDF files for additional information. The “What’s New” document is for specific information on new features and functionality that is included within the Prinect Workflow components. The “Server Requirements” document is for the minimum system requirements for your Prinect servers and the “Workstation Requirements” document is for the Cockpit and Signastation platforms. We cannot install these upgrades on systems not meeting these minimum requirements.

I have been assigned as a Project Manager to help facilitate your upgrade. We are scheduling upgrades at customer sites on a “first come, first served” basis. If you are not the one responsible for handling software upgrades, kindly forward this email as needed to the Owner or appropriate member of the Prepress Management.

Some items of interest that Heidelberg is offering with this upgrade include:

1) Existing Workflow Audit
The Prinect Project Managers can evaluate your current system configuration and make recommendationsbased on your input, for options and workflow additions that will improve your efficiency and add $’s to your bottom line.

2) Optional on-site training
Heidelberg offers on-site training that will review all the new features included within this suite of upgrades to ensure that your staff gets the most out of these new features.

3) Prinect Workflow Tune-up
During a two day Tune-up, a Heidelberg Workflow Specialist will analyze your workflow to identify inefficient processes and methods. While working with your operators we will provide recommendations for positive changes to improve productivity and profitability. Most of these recommendations can be implemented immediately without additional investment. In addition, we will follow-up with a personalized, web based session to address any questions that may come up after our visit. This service is being offered at a greatly reduced rate of $2,500 (please see attached “Workflow Tune-up” document for additional information). This can also be combined with instructions on thenew features of the software.

4) New Computers
Depending on the age of your existing computer systems, now may be the perfect time to upgrade them to current, faster models. All Dell computers sold by HUS come with a standard 90-day Heidelberg warranty and also include a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty for parts and labor directly from Dell. Many models include a 24/7 Dell mission critical service package which insures a rapid response when needed. Upgrading hardware together with your software upgrade can reduce downtime and avoid unanticipated costs due to unexpected failures of aging hardware.

5) Prinect Data Protection Package
Storms. Fires. Viruses. Hackers. Computer failures. What do all of these have in common? They are just a few of the threats to your business. Are your jobs and configuration data secured? Do you have a proven plan to get back into production with minimal downtime and no loss of crucial data? If you don’t, or if you are backing up to tape, CD or DVD, then Prinect Data Protection from Heidelberg is the perfect solution. (please see attached “Data Protection” document for additional information).

6) Using Prinect Data Protection for Minimal Downtime Re-hosting
A typical re-hosting of a Prepress Manager server running Windows 2003 on legacy hardware to Prinect Prepress Manager 2010 on a new server running Microsoft Windows 2008 involves production downtime that is difficult to estimate and typically exceeds 8-12 hours depending on the size and scope of the Prinect Installation. This Minimal Downtime Re-Hosting method coupled with Heidelberg's Prinect Data Protection appliance can accomplish the task with far greater safety, with only a small fraction of the downtime (typically 1-2 hours or less). Please talk to us about this option if you are considering upgrading your server hardware together with your Prinect upgrades.

Now that you know/have the new version are any of these functions/features beneficial to you?

The one feature we use is the ability to assign a page to multiple imposition positions. But most times we forget the feature exists.

The assignment of colour bar colours is a little smarter. But the visual part of this feature was changed and I don't understand the benefit. Because now you will see colour position even when your bar may not have that particular position available.

Signa station 2010

Signa station 2010

We have installed Signa station 2010 (hotfix 1) but we are still using version 4.5.40 because there is bug.
When you print flyers with bleed 3 but with no gaps, there will be thin white line (like 1 point) between the flyers in the output.
The same problem is in Saddlestitch booklet when using for example scheme 2x2 for 8 pages.
Between pages 8 and 1 there is also thin white line in the output.

So we are waiting for hotfix 2 i hope this will be solved.

Service Release 2 for Signastation 2010 has been available for several weeks now.
Before that, the Hotfixes went up to at least 6 ;)
