Hello inkies and old timers,

Looking for information on materials and suppliers of nitrocellulose lacquer for use as an offset varnish. This is a specialized application in "art" proofing on a single color offset press.

Also interested in anyone with experience in this type of chemistry with a bench level process able to do testing and formulatioin as needed.

Please contact me directly or through the forum.

Best regards,

Larry:
I don't think this was ever an offset process. Last I heard, it is still used as a primer for printing on metallized paper or foil laminates. The process they use is gravure, maybe flexo. This is a fast solvent and polar solvent material, very flammable. Solvents are alcohols and ketones. Nitrocellulose is the same as "smokeless powder".

Re: Nitrocellulose lacquer based offset varnish

John,

I've gathered information on the traditional uses and methods of application of NCL. The process cannot use any varnish with linseed oil and nitrocellulose was suggested by someone outside the offset industry.

Suggestions still welcome.
