Ok heres a strange one,we ran the first side of a s/w job,100# cover4/c/p+an o/a gloss varnish,on the first side we lost two magenta plates a black plate and a yellow plate(the job was 114,000 impressions)the plates started going at 30,000 impr.I backed up 30,000 sheets and then bam I started getting the print image from the front side?The entire magenta plate had picture framing and is was picking up the image from the first side,any ideas?Thanks.

Forgive the ignorance, but please explain "s/w". Is that anything like work/turn? I imagine that the job is first "s-ed" and the "w-ed. After 40+ years in printing, I do not recognize the terms, and Google was no help.

Edit: Perhaps you meant to type w/s, which would be work and swop.

A s/w means sheet wise,five plates on the front and five differant ones on the back.

What press were you running it on, and what kind of plates were you using.
Were you using job lot paper.

Perhaps too much spray powder on the first pass?? Transferring onto blankets and affecting the plate image?? Too much spray will definately give a ghosted image of first pass when backing up...try washing blankets a little more often or even de-spraying by moving the job back a unit and using first unit on impression to lift powder... Picture framing and plate wearing can be indicative of too much pressure between plate and blanket also..

The job was run on a Komori,6color coater(this job did not coat) with a number 2 sheet of paper(I belive it was sterling gloss cover)I'm also leaning to the etch idea,I'm running HDA65 and Emerald junior,conductivity(when freshly mixed)is 1,700 t0 1,900.Today I increased the etch a little bit and I will continue to monitor it,I'll keep everyone informed,thanks for all your input,please feel free to add any ideas you may have.

Blanket picture framing ghost images

I experienced that same problem with ghost images from a previous run popping up on the blanket and attracting ink, and accepting ink in the same spot as the previous job. I found out that we used a blanket wash with a surfactant in it that had sensitized the blanket to actually attract ink to the area established by the previous run. We went to a different wash, changed that blanket and resolved that problem. I still think it was very strange. Just my two cents.
