Press sheet calculator?

Is there a simple (yet reliable) application that can figure the optimal layout for printing projects?

Metrix seems like it handles this incredibly well - but it has many many other features.

Is there a good application that is just a layout calculator?

Thanks in advance for any help.

inpO2 Optimization

inpO2 Optimization

Hello. I saw your post and wanted to suggest you look at our inpO2 with our Optimization module.

It can allow you to layout a sheet with actual jobs or with placeholders and show you how much waste you have on each sheet. It will also allow you quickly try different sheet sizes to see if you can get a better layout. What's nice is anything you plan, can be saved and also used in production. inpO2 Basic with the Optimization module is also under $2,000 USD. So it's very cost effective.

Let me know if you'd like a preview. I'd be more than happy to show you what we can do. We also have a Planning module built into our Pro edition that might interest you.

You can contact me at [email protected].

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello emprint!

My friend and I are workig on something like that..Just for layout but also can be for any other calcualtion regarding material in a printshop (calculation of spine,board,hardcover...). It is made in excel, but we are working right now on making it .exe file.

Here's a video of it, now it's a bit different, we are constantly upgrading, improving it.

YouTube - Montazer.avi

Just a quick info: type a format, choose binding and depending on how many pages per sheet you want you get optimal layout, optimal sheet size.. It can be completely tailored to your needs.. Any other info you need, please contact me. I'll give you a detailed info on what you can do with it. Send you an example file. Oh, it's not expensive at all, and we'll do whatever you want :)

We work in a large printshop so we know what is useful,,after all it was made for us, to ease our job. We also have a calculation tool for any material in printing, bookmaking..

Thank you for the replies.

I will check out both of your websites for sure.

And if there are any other suggestions.... please keep them coming.

As far as printing devices - they would be:
40" Heidelberg SM
23 x 29 (74)
14 x 20 (52)
and some multis

Of course - if I could put in specs for other printing devices just to see how those would work (efficiency).... that would be a good capability as well.

+1 I would like to know this, i've liked metrix alot except for the price tag! I love the automatic optimizes several presses , several sheet sizes for the least amount of waste and tells you # of sheets to use based on this setup of W/T , w/tumble, sheet work etc.

I need to use it at times just for pricing purposes and not really need to plug in any jobs to it yet.
