Prinergy/ Trendsetter ??

We have just purchased a used Trendsetter and a Prinergy 4 system, and am being told by Kodak that you can not re-sell Prinergy, therefore it is illegal.
Everything is hooked up & running but we need the code to set the laser.

Is anyone out there using a "used Prinergy system"?

Thanks in advance,

I'd suspect you could get Kodak to 're-license' your copy.. It is an off-the-shelf software product you can buy (they'd rather wrap you up in a service agreement, and all that, but at the end of the day....).
See if you can find a third party willing to service the software/equipment. Perhaps they'll have a solution to your problem (that costs less than ponying up to Unkle Kodak).

Prinergy/Trendsetter

For the price that Kodak would want to "re-license" your Prinergy you could likely do as well if not better with another RIP/Workflow solution.
Curious though... what happened to the license codes to the Prinergy system that you purchased second hand?
Give me a call - I have considerable experience with Trendsetters and RIP's and Workflow solutions. I'm not too far from San Diego either.

The codes for the Prinergy are fine in fact the system is working fine.......
We need to gain access to the Trendsetter via service mode & am being told Kodak changes them weekly.

if you are using printconsole after the prinergy i would use a diferent rip, if you are using only prinergy, i would also change it. to other rip any way. i can help you send me an email. i also give support for the mexican region on this machines.

I'm Curious hansman, what are you trying to do that you need access to service mode?

Working for a very large printing corporation where money was no object, management was sold on the idea of automating flexo packaging through Prinergy Powerpack. After months of MASSIVE amounts of OT, few jobs going through production, and VERY poor support, the department switched back over to Artpro and later added Nexus. Delegating Prinergy to the trash heap ( dumped on to another company) along with the manager who made the decision, we never looked back.

It sounds like this company was able to sell prinergy without any issues. But then after reading his experience you may not want to keep it.

good luck.

We were told a couple years ago by a field tech that Kodak took access to the service area away from customers and that it is only accessible by service technicians, either on-site or remotely. Meaning; there is no license to that area.

Hi, if your Trendsetter is equipped with new electronic (GMCE or TMCE) then you need a service dongle to access Service Shell (the utility used by service engineers), if it's MPE then all you need is terminal (ie Hyperterminal) and a trick - disable "Service Host" service.
And now it's going to be more complicated: you need to set up a media parameters.

Hi All,

Indeed, this is the typical way that Kodak has come out with to counter the used Creo/Kodak CTP that compete with them and also the numerous thermal plate in the market that has target at Kodak plate customer.

However, there are always solution to everything if it is create by "man"

Hmm thats one way of looking at it. My understanding is that it is possible to cause damage to the laser if you set it incorrectly. This is why the service level access is protected.

As you point out, any system created by man can eventually be circumvented, the question is, do you have the time and resources to do so.

@ Hansman, you are correct, you will need service level access and, as was previously posted, you will need information as to several media parameters to set up a new plate. If you are going to use a Kodak Plate, I am sure that the Plate rep will arrange for someone to set up the machine for you, otherwise, your plate manufacturers rep should cover the cost of having a Kodak CTP Tech set up your machine for their plate.

I have done this several times in my market, and billed the plate manufacturer.

My Take: You have spent probably a considerable sum to buy this equipment, it would be a shame to break it trying to save a few dollars on set up. Get someone who knows what they are doing and has the tools to do so.

Fair disclosure: I do not work for Kodak, but I am a distributor of their CTP products and am trained to install and service Trendsetters.

Hi Marc,

I worked for Kodak but left them!!!!! So calibration of plate is of no issue as i do for all other plate especially china plate.

I deal with thermal plate from china, resell used trendsetter series and refurbished THERMAL HEAD and service them.

You are right that setting of laser is critical, but u never see other manufacturer locking down their equipment:) Having said that Kodak trendsetter series is a good machine and a much better machine to work even with "cheap china" plate with their wide laser"range"
