Printing Photos to Digital Press, Command Workstation

Hey,

I'm looking for a solution to print JPGs in common sizes, such as 5 x 7", 4 x 6", 8 x 10", etc., directly to cut sheets like 8.5 x 11" and 11 x 17". Since Fiery Command Workstation cannot process JPGs and other images, I need some sort of interface that will let me size image(s) onto cut sheets and send them to the Fiery for further options. What do you guys use?

Windows Photo Viewer is not working like it used to, unfortunately. So that is not an option.

easy peasy... install Fiery JobFlow, the free version. Create hot folders for each size, assign them to an imposition template with the size(s) you need. It'll take in common file formats and spit out PDFs, then automatically run them through the necessary imposition processor.

I do this to convert any printable format into automatic quarter sheet or half sheet flyers, regardless of the native size of the file provided. Almost a must when dealing with parents/teachers that don't know jack about document creation.

No affiliation, but you could take a look at Qimage. I have used it in the past to send photo jobs to the Fiery and also to my Canon wide format. Probably more features than you’re looking for, but it’s an inexpensive program for what it can do.

Will Jobflow handle rotation, adding bleed, and sizing?

If you were using Windows photo viewer before, I bet Acrobat would suit your use-case just fine. I've done something similar because JobFlow isn't available on our Mac workstations. Here's my workflow for when I need to do this on occasion:

1) Open acrobat, select Create --> Combine multiple files into a PDF. Select all the JPGs/etc that you want to print. This will give you a PDF document with each photo as a page of the document.
2) File --> Print, selecting "Page Setup" and choosing your desired output size (ie, 11x17). Then select "Fit" under "Page Sizing & Handling", and then print. You'll get an output of each page in the document sized (up or down) to your desired output size. You change the qty/collation settings to get multiple of each...or manually duplicate the pages of your PDF.

If you want to lay them out similar to how Windows photo viewer did (ie, 2up 8x10's), you'd need another step. Instead of printing to your printer, in the previous step you'd print to a new PDF - so you have a document where each photo is already sized to your intended finished size. You would then print THAT pdf in Acrobat, but select the "Multiple" option under Page Sizing & Handling, which can be configured to give you a layout where each of the photos is printed nUP in its finished size, on your larger printed page size.

Kind of wonky, but works well if your needs are basic or you can't use a better tool.

good question, as long as you have a license for EFI Impose on your Fiery... I guess that is a necessary part I didn't think of

Yes to sizing and rotation but for bleed you need the paid version which includes Enfocus Pitstop.
