Problems with HP Z6100

Goodafternoon,

I've been having an issue with my HP6100 witch comes and goes from time to time, But today it was back and I still cannot seem to understand why it does this.

I was printing a big black print of 1.5mtr. to 2.0mtr. and halfway down the print the HP stops printing, the file and track of it dissapears completely out of postershop (7.0) but the HP stil says it's printing, problem is it stopped in the middle and then it (after about a minute) started printing again which left a big stripe down my print and now I can throw it away....

why does he do this and how can change it

anyone any ideas?

may be a dumb answer, but do you have a screen saver running or other power saving features enabled ?
Sounds like server went to sleep and the awoke you noticed, it simply ran out of data.

from time to time,... is that always on large prints ?
were you transfering or ripping something else at the same time as printing ?
was that a four color black or just black ?
ink resevoirs full ?

@cliff, nothing but postershop and one or two of the nessecary programs run on that computer, at that moment nothing but postershop was running. It did look like it went out of data, the part where u see how many % there is left over to print was on 100 when it stopped but it still had about 60cm. Printing to go. Which it still pri ts after the +\- 30 sec. It stops but then the harm is already done. Strange enough when i tried the second time it did excactly the same but about 10cm. Doen i to the print. So it's not the same spot that it happens.

It does usually happens more with large prints, in this case it was full covered blue with an image.

Oce to the rescue

After some calls we found out that my fiery is sending out the file in packeges to the printer, and although it is done with rendering a package before it stops printing this can happen, we need to change settings in the fiery now to make sure it sends out the complete file in one package so that i will not stop printing.

That sounds easy enough but lets see when oce gets it done, I would think they would just set it to wait until rip is complete before sending. Also printer is attached via what type of cabling, scsi , lan 10 base or gigabit.

I do not remember how much ram or buffer is in that printer.
Here in Canada Oce and other are not great at technical, usually there seems to be one guy/gal who know and the rest are clueless. I support Grand format printers like Vutek, Gandi, and a few Oce/fuji machines.

Well Oce didn't quit help (@cliff: here in Holland i have the same experience with them and there 'help' as u in canada or at least it sounds formiliar)

but in the meantime i started diggin in the machine and fixed it myself, it was indeed the way the printer started, it was set on 'imidiatly' and when i set it to 'when rip is done' i found myself without the error again...

Called oce, where some guy would call me back when he went through his manual (quit embarrasing to tell your customer that but okay) and told him what was up. i got a 'i wrote it down, good to know' and that wraps it up...

Well I do this sort of thing for a living, and a long time ago I was in the field . It always drove me crazy how over 90% of the " field Engineers " understood little about their own machine let alone a competitors. I service 4 2m UV machine ( Vuteks ), 1 2m solvent, 1 3m solvent, 1 1.2X2 m hybrid flatbed oce/fuji , a direct to fabric inline sublimation 3m Gandi and a few espons, basically its all the same in the end only larger in scale. This place is printing 24/7 so when I have time I check the boards.

well i get what u mean, before we had our xerox machine's we had everything taken care of by Oce, and in the end of the day i dreaded calling them about something because it would take forever and the explaining from me to them took hours because they just did not see what the problem or issue was..
 
I have taken factory Field Engineering courses ( I do not work for a supplier ) for my work and for freelance things,... So I am the inhouse guy. I had taken a course in San Jose with a bunch of OCe guys and most of them did not bother to pay attention since they said they would learn in the field which never happened. Unfortunately OCE is not the only company guilty of this. Vutek is about a 3 hour drive from here but it may be 1000 hours since there is a disconnect between end users, field engineers and factory.
