Quark and postscript levels

Can anyone shed some light? I have printed a job with a tint CMYK breakdown C0% M5% Y6% K11%. I know the tints are low, but the problem is when rip to the plate machine using quark and printing with postscript level 3 hardly any dot will appear on the plates and obviously nothing prints, but ripped from level 2 the dot is good and sharpe on all plates.
I know your going to say just rip with level 2, but i just would like to know why this happens?
Any explainations will be greatly received.

thanks in advance.

Is your Rip PostScript 3 or 2?

Is your Rip PostScript 3 or 2?

Is your Rip PostScript 3 or 2? If rip is level 2, then it won't handle level 3 PostScript correctly.
