quick Q about pantone to cmyk

When we print pantone colors they are very close to the bridge book cmyk colors. Is there a way to get even better color or maybe closer to the pantone solid color? We have been looking into getting maybe monaco profiler and colorthink software but if it doesn't change the final print then why bother. We are using In Design, Photoshop, and printing to a Presstek 34DI. Opinions on what is the best training program out there for color management.

You can get the best values for a PANTONE-spotcolor when you use the "Lab bookvalues" inside InDesign and convert them to CMYK on output using an ICC-profile that describes your print process.

Beware 0% Pantone XXX using LAB values will not necessarily be 0%C 0%M 0%Y 0%K but will be a LAB number. So for solid patches yes for %ages at your own risk.

I agree with Toronar. Change your preferences to "Lab Bookvalues" and build a custom characterization/profile of your precess. Use this profile as your working space. The spots you define will have a new CMYK value based on the profile.
