Recommendations for Used Equipment

Any specific places you recommend for buying used equipment? We are just getting our local print shop setup. We have all the large format machines
(our current online business does large formate custom work), UV printers, Latex roll to roll, 2 larger Digital cutters, but need to get set up for all the small stuff. I am looking at getting a KM C4070 and a Duplo cutter/slitter. Any and all feedback would be great. The large format side is all used equipment which has served me well and saved me a ton, so that is why I was looking to do the same for this. Thanks!

If your pretty knowledgeable and a DIY attitude the FB marketplace and, surprisingly still, Craigslist are great places to find deals on equipment. eBay isn’t bad either but most stuff there tends to be higher priced.

the large format stuff does not need anywhere near as much attention as a digital printer will. I would not buy a digital press without a service contract. Even if you are capable of replacing things yourself you are going to need help. Lots of plastic and sensors in a digital press. Anything else I would go without a service contract. We have zund cutters, swissQ flatbed printer, multiple wide format Epsons, Konica C1200, Konica 7090 and a smaller Canon press that I can't remember the name of. Techs are in regularly, this is just part of digital printing.

You can check out wirebids.com and ebay. However, I don't think used equipment dealers typically have multiple locations across the US like new equipment dealers do...from what I've seen, they usually have one warehouse in one region. They might advertise online and you could buy out of state, but you may end up losing a good chunk of the savings on the freight/transportation costs (especially with current fuel prices!) I'd suggest you do some googling for dealers within your location. So if we recommend someone, they may only be in our state. Additionally, you can check with the Konica dealers (or even the Konica direct branch) in your area. They often have lease returns or even sell off their demo room models at significantly reduced prices - and still offer a good service plan. I used to work for Konica Minolta selling production gear, and we got a monthly list of all of the lease returns. I had a few smaller mom-and-pop shops who were on a wait list for certain models. I'd reach out to them as soon as I got the list, but they sell really fast because every other sales rep has their own wait list of clients.
