Removing hyperlinks from PDF

Is there any way to remove the automated hyperlinks in Acrobat? I've tried everything from re-distilling the PDF file to going to "Advanced/Document Processing/Remove all links..." in Acrobat.

I know you can turn off "Create links from URL" under Preferences in Acrobat, but I need them removed in the file so I can upload PDF to Digital Editions.

The only thing I have found is to create a manual link on each page going to "page view", but that is a little time comsuming.

Any ideas?

Quick way would be to convert text to curves, which is not the greatest solution in itself, but if loosing links is more important to you than retaining flexibility and editabillity, than go for it.
If you use PDF enhancer to do it, it will even retain search function for text.
Other than that, post request to Adobe to disable smart URL feature by default.
Most of our clients do not want links in their pdf's and it is mixed bag with some clients being okay when you tell them to disable it in acrobat preferences and some clients do not want to fiddle with preferences as they can not control it for their clients, etc...

I am VERY confused by this thread...

That preference in Acrobat simply tells Acrobat to PRETEND that regular text that looks like a URL is an active link. It DOES NOT, IN ANY WAY, modify the PDF itself.

So why does having that preference enabled have ANY IMPACT on Digital Edition, your print process, etc?!?!

Leonard, I think it has to do with changing the link color to black instead of blue or purple. But I'm confused too...

I did some testing with Acrobat's Preflight. If you run one of the Preflight profiles that makes the file PDF/X-1a compliant, then even turning on the "Create Links" preference won't work.

I can't find an individual "fix-up" that does this. I'm wondering if the PDF/X tag in the file header disables that preference.

PDF/X-compliant files are destined for print - so there is no reason to enable link detection.

Obviously you don't need links in a file destined for print. Perhaps the original poster is looking to create a file completely devoid of the ability to support links.

I know it is an unusual request, but I have a customer who doesn't want any active hyperlinks when the file is uploaded to Digital Editions. The problem is that Acrobat automatically activates a link to every website in the file or anything that is recognized as a website. I'm just trying to figure out an easy way to de-activate them.

Rich Apollo...I ran the preflight profile which makes the file PDF/X-1a compliant with no luck. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Don't forget about the setting in Acrobat Pro itself which attempts to recognize links as URLs.

Is outlining text not an option?
I believe that is the only way you will get what you want.

--And Greg, he already mentioned that preference in original post and that is not what he wants to do as far as I can tell.

Zoran - That's a good suggestion, but I don't know an easy way to convert the text in a 72 page PDF file to outlines. They include at least one web address on every page, so it may take a while to convert to outlines.

This customer sends in a new file every two weeks, so I want to come up with an efficient way to convert it.

Hey Zoran....I found an Action list that converts all text to outlines. That worked!
