Removing shadow from Illus file

Can someone help me with this.
I'm not a designer but have worked in Illus. before.
I'm in CS4 I can get rid of this shadow for some reason.
Its showing compound paths and taking that off doesn't get me to the shadow.

never mind I got it

drop shadow

drop shadow

open the appearance panel and delete or turn off the drop shadow "layer"

I only have CS3, but i was able to use the direct selection tool, and select the shadow (raster object) and delete it.
