I am about to buy a new printer, I am choosing between Fuji Revoria Press SC285S and Konica Minolta AccurioPress C4070. Fuji tempts me with the ability to print white and metallic, Konica has better service. Does anyone have experience with Fuji and would like to share their impressions? I have been using Konica Minolta for 15 years and I am satisfied, but I have never solved the problem with the 37th antimeter on thicker cardboard.

I'd go with the better service with Konica.

I can't speak for the Revoria SC285, but some toner presses require multiple passes to get white to be opaque. The metallic samples that I have seen from the Xerox Irridesse (Revoria EC1120) are not very impressive compared with foil. The specialty metallic and white toners may also be very expensive, as are the drums, developer, etc. Also make sure your service techs know how to fix issues with specialty colors if you get the SC285.

you might also ask this question in reddit.com/r/commercial printing. This forum skews heavily United States and Fuji has only recently started selling here and Xerox and Sharp, who rebadge Fuji equipment as theirs, are not selling the 5 color Revorias at this time.

IMO 5th & 6th colour options are a sales gimmick, which most shops won't use often, if at all.
I understand the cost is typically not covered by the basic CMYK click - you're buying the toner separately and paying a premium CPC

  • How many jobs do you lose because you can't currently do white/metallic?
  • How many jobs will you be able to upsell with white/metallic? Will those jobs (which as CMYK are simple now) become harder to do and take longer, so the end doesn't justify the means?
  • Will the metallic be underwhelming versus hot foiling, as @SoggyWinter mentions above?
  • Better Service is the most important aspect, arguably more important than a cheap CPC.

We've had a C4080 for coming up 5 years and love the machine. Get the Fiery though, not the OEM controller, which is poor.
