Ricoh 7110 problems

We have had the Ricoh three months now and from the day of install it was out of square on the prints by about 2mm, as was the demo machine even though we were told not to worry it would all be set up and lined up on installation. What we have now is either the 300 s 350 out of square and the lower weights ok ish or the other way around. Duplex is a joke, we are having to use tray alignment for every job which is time consuming. Tech have spent over a week on and off with top level specialists but when they failed to solve it ....its in spec apparently!! I wouldn't mind if you had any control over it like I was used too on the Xerox but you don't. Other niggles are random glitches in black lines, paper waffling the length of the sheet as opposed to the normal across the sheet, tripple clicking for the banner sheet ( even though our contract is two ) repeating image on the banner sheet, paper jamming, etc man do I wish I stayed with Xerox, at least they had good service and support which Ricoh doesn't.

Hi deck, why does this matter, it's an international forum isn't it? I have also heard from a couple of guys in America that are having similar issues

No you're right it is int'l but the service support system is probably (don't know for sure) different and I haven't heard of these types of issues over here (I'm a Fiery support person for Ricoh). I don't believe they compare notes and fixes and such with each other. I'm sure there's more to the story but that's my take fwiw.

Really should have something in the profile where people are, that would help, I think that got lost with the change in forum software as many other things were lost as well.

That explains why you had different power requirements for your install.

Have had my new 7110 for 1 month. No problems at all so far. Squareness and duplex register is excellent. Both are better than my Canon 7010vp.

We are 3 months in with ours and it's been fantastic. 130k on the clock
My operator cannot get over how good the registration is on this.

We only have a problem with the banner tray registration which is a known fault apparently..?

Certainly an upgrade on our old Xerox 700.

We too have been struggling with registration, this is our 5th month and the registration problems started about 6 weeks ago. Up to that point we were not even checking front to back registration on anything because you would just load and run. Then we noticed a few runs of 14pt had some sheets that were skewed, badly, nearly 1/4" out. It was interspersed throughout the run and the majority were okay so we chalked it up to an errant scrap of paper. We ran for a week or two with random problems but it was so few sheets from a full run that were out that we didn't pay too much attention to it. After a few weeks of that it seemed to be much more constant. Our tech went through the machine and found a sticker in the duplex path that was working free and possibly catching. We removed that and thought we were out of the woods, no such luck. It continued but now showed as a problem mainly with the first side imaged, the backs seemed to be pretty consistent. Throughout the problem and up to this point we're having to check the first sheet out and moving it on the fiery to align: no more load and run for us. Most of the problem appeared to be skewing but most recently it also seems to be problematic with the feed as well as across it. Really all over the place up to the point that there is nothing that is heavyweight stock that's sellable from the machine, lighter stocks seem okay but not how they were when new. One interesting fact is that oversize sheets (25" long) seem to register as well as they have ever done.

Set "Deactivate Image Position Adjustment" under the advanced settings of the paper catalog to "on' to improve the oversize sheet registration.

Hi Msaeger so your asking jotterpinky to change the settings on the only thing he is still pleased with?? jotterpinky we had our registration sensor changed and that has given us accurate registration now although still not square and still cant duplex or back up prints without altering the gate on the tray alignment manually. We have had another week of senior techs trying all day to fix it and then saying cant get it better but its within spec anyway... I am happy manually aligning but they are now threatening if I carry on using it.....They have even sent a memo around all the engineers saying not to let anyone touch the adjustment gate lol

Sorry I misread thanks. There was a bulletin just released saying to change that setting to fix skew on banner sheets so I guess I have that on the brain.

This is really disappointing. We're in the UK as well and I was going to seriously look at a 9110 or 7110 later this year (the larger sheet size would be really useful to us), but if they can't even get jobs square on a sheet, that's a complete non starter. I'll speak to Ricoh and see what they say, but I certainly wouldn't be happy with operators having to manually adjust trays - that would be taking a real step backwards!

Ifelton, just has the senior top guy in to have a final look and due to the stupid way it registers on the shortest edge of the sheet! no side lay to keep it square, he has told us its as good as it is going to get which varies between 1 & 2mm out of square. That is at the uppermost of their acceptable range but never the less its within spec. Also if anyone out there is having issues with feeding dark coloured card and paper Ricoh have brought out a modified part with a larger reflective panel to stop the paper jams.

Our machine had good registration on normal papers, but up to 10 mm off when running banners. You can see the flimsy banner tray will never run a banner straight. There is almost no side control. Plus it makes so many jams on banners, so we just didn't use the function.
I can't tell how it is if you use the vacuum tray for banners. But then you can't use it for normal paper.

You are using the tray that mounts on top of the lct right?

Trouble is with banner tray the tail edge of the paper or board is still in the feed tray when the front end hits the registration part so the tail end is skewed as it comes through.
Only way they can fix this is by fitting a bridge unit making sure the tail is clear of the feeder unit before front registration. We did (Deactivate Image Position Adjustment" under the advanced settings of the paper catalog to "on' to improve the oversize sheet registration) and that improved feed and registration.

We can run a passable job from the banner tray but would not attempt to run a 2 pass through there as it will not register that well.
annoying that side one is skewed by 2mm and the back up is straight but coming from a Xerox we were used to that anyway ;)

I hope Ricoh will address this problem sooner rather than later as we have been very impressed with all other parts of this machine.

Hi Brunswick,
I don't get the comparison between the 700 and this copier ? Makes no sense !
The 700 was developed 10 years ago , no another copy company had anything like it ! The rest scrambled to create their own.
Even if your angry with Xerox it is not a fair comparison in anyone's language.
This richo and a 2100 or 1000i if your looking for a extra colour is definitely the right comparison, Or a new KM .
