Hi all,

I'm looking for a simple scheduling system, nothing fancy. Just able to show the job names, docket numbers, run size, stock, due date etc and be able to move them along from press into bindery and then shipping. It would be nice if there was a simple lookup to give rough run times and press loading. Any shareware or templates out there? We would like to avoid sinking a lot of dollars into this. We currently use Excel but its fairly basic.

First, to answer your question, No, I don't know of anything to do what you want. But, Second, I might recommend using a database application like Access (it comes as part of the Office Professional set). I used Access to create an application we use to track job specs and production status at our plant. I would think from what you are saying it would not be hard to create what you are looking for. Assuming you know a bit about databases, I guess. Thirdly, you might try some of the Access sites. I have been on a number of user forums and websites and have found some templates, not necessarily for printing but templates.

Thanks Sutton. Sounds like we are all doing the same thing one thousand times over, creating an Excel spreadsheet or a Filemaker database from scratch.

What's the definition of insanity? lol!

Doing things over and over and starting from scratch is part of what makes printing so profitable! :-O

You would think the PIA could offer some kind of basic 'printer oriented' software packages for reasonable prices. Maybe they do and I just don't know.

Good luck on your quest.
