Spectro color measuring

gordo

Well-known member
Hi,

I received this question and wondered if any forum members have advice:

"I am packaging technologist presently working on a project"Standardization of shade cards"
My query is regarding the usefulness of measuring color printed on Metallized PET Monocarton (common for toothpastes) by a spectrophotometer. Does it give a right L,a,b Values or are the reading ambigous."

Thanks

They would need a spherical spectrophotometer. The typical 0/45 spectro, like an i1, won't work well for this purpose.

This is a cool little doodad, a spherical spectro that takes spot color readings anywhere for a very reasonable cost (not yet shipping though):

Yes, at first read it does appear to be a nice little unit! I was informed of this “yet to be released product” last week and I am awaiting their reply on some technical questions.
