SPOT GLOSS on the Nexpress

UK Printer

Afternoon All,

we have a Kodak Nexpress, getting some great results out the beast with the dimensional effects and the new gloss flood coating is fantastic.

We offer in house SPOT UV on all sorts, and have been meaning to use the SPOT GLOSS facility on the nexpress using the offline glossing wotsit.

Anyway, long story short, we got some great results with the spot gloss, but need to find a way of doing the following, hopefully someone know of some simple software that can do this.

1. The spot gloss works by applying the clear varnish from the 5th unit onto everywhere that has toner, we need to create a mask in a program to create a 100% solid area mask of a file, the file could be pixel based or postscript, and then apply a 1mm trap to the mask to allow for any movement on the registration.

All the best

Tim

We use varnish tool from Heidelberg workflow, or in special cases do it manually.
We never had to apply 1 mm trap, registration has been bang on every time.

Read this document attached
You have to play with "multiply" transparency at 100%
Hope it helps
The name of the spot colour is important
Must be called "NexPress DryInk clear" or it won't work
cheers

Tim, if you use Kodak Prinergy workflow instead of Prinect, you could use the PDF Plate Builder plug in for Acrobat Pro.

I don't know if or how that would change with the info in the document provided by margadri.

Does anybody know if the Kodak Nexpress offline Glossing unit can work independently of a Nexpress ? I assuming it can do a flood coat but not spot and can it handle the other speciality varnishes pearlescent etc ?

Chief,

To adequately run particulate coating like Matte, Satin, soft touch, pearls, glitter, etc, without issues and streaks, you will need a chamber/anilox system. Harris & Bruno International who has long provided most coating systems inline to the major OEM's like Komori, KBA, Mitsubishi, Heidelberg, etc, is now making offline coaters with this equipment as an option. PM me if you would like to speak to a rep in your area. I've posted a link of the product online w/ video attached:
