Thermal plate deletion chemistry for wide areas

Hi,

what kind of chemistry can be used for quick and clean remove the emulsion from 7x200mm area on thermal positive Kodak XD plates.

We are pocketbook printer and at some times we need to print on wider web than plates are. Book pages have empty margins and that allows us to produce wider books on wider web than it enables the press specification and the max plate width on the press. In this case the CTP room needs to prepare plates by deleting the emulsion from 7x200mm area on the plate.

Currently we use acetone as the most effective solution, but CTP operators suffers because of its poisonous evaporation even wearing masks. The plate developer works too slow (about 20 s per plate) and needs a force to remove the emulsion. Operators need to prepare in such way 30-50 plates per shift. Special deletion pens are too expensive and not effective for us.

Question is: what can be an alternative to acetone ? What other kind of chemistry etches off the emulsion quickly and easy.

You can try Spirit or paint thinner, but evaporation is a problem in these chemicals too.

finally found a solution - nail polish remover without acetone. It includes the main compoundEthyl acetate. Works great as acetone.
