Upgrading our creasing?

Hello all
New post here -- we have a KB2000 perfect binder, and I am considering upgrading from our manual hand-creasers for preparing covers, to something a little quicker / automated. I've been looking at machines such as the Morgana Autocreaser, Rollem, etc. We rarely use it for huge runs, but would like to know what your thoughts were on these machines - perhaps the autocreaser as a second hand model to start us off with? thanks in advance
 
For semi-auto
Rollem Champion 990s come up used pretty often for like $1000-$2000 and Rollem sells parts and offers service manuals for all of their products I think, but you'd have to adjust the crease dies with an allen wrench for every changeover.

For automatic you should include Horizon in your comparison list. Morgana or Horizon auto creasers will run $40k USD give or take new.

Some machines use a roller wheel to crease sheets but others use a creaser bar male/female to crease. The bars offer a better less cracking crease. See if you can find a used Duplo 445/446 creaser. Its auto feed compact and does a good job.

But keep in mind the "D" in Duplo may stand for Double-feed.

Rather than getting a machine that can only crease, have you considered a slitter/cutter/creaser (SCC) to get more bang for your buck (and floor space)? This will solve your creasing problem, but also automate cutting business cards, postcards, cutting&creasing of greeting cards, etc. Most SCC's also have perfing ability. Since you're looking for budget/used, a Duplo 616 Pro would be a good option. 2nd choice would be an AeroCut Prime.
 
The Morgana Autocreaser and Duplo machines are great machines. I have nothing against them; I have a Duplo DC618 that I love. I also have several Rollem machines and for what you would like to do, that’s what I would use. Outfit the Rollem with one or several Tri-Creaser heads and you will be all set. It’s not a big deal or even very time consuming to change sheet size and crease position. If by chance your crease isn’t deep enough, no problem run it through a second time. The Rollem is lightning fast compared to the auto cutters/creasers.

With Tri-Creaser heads installed on the Rollem, you will see absolutely no difference in the quality compared to a channel crease.

You’ll find plenty of good used Rollem machines because they are beasts that last forever.

Everyone has a rogue machine at some point. Ours was a Duplo DF-1200 which we bought second-hand when we were first setting up our finishing dept. It *could* have put us off the brand but I'm glad to say it didn't, as their DBM-150T booklet maker (bought brand new from Duplo) is an awesome piece of kit for its price and footprint. Our learning was more along the lines of avoiding second-hand/refurbished kit unless it's on a comprehensive maintenance agreement. Had that DF-1200 been supported, someone would have been out every other day for a couple of months. Conversely, refurbished guillotines I'm totally relaxed with, because we have the best supplier/maintainer one could hope for.

I love demo videos like this. No fancy/meaningless graphics flashing across the screen, no cuts in the video, nothing sped up, a variety of challenging projects to test, and a demonstrator that knows what he's doing! Looks like a great machine.
