Hey guys wondering if you could help me convert uv varnish coating thickness from microns to gsm as this would help me in my costing when giving quotes.

Thanks in advance

The easy practical method for you vmarda is as follows; Example:

1) Standard page size is 8.5 x 11 inches. That is 93.5 total square inches.

2) Substrate is Gloss Coated, let's say with average hold out.

3) Let us put the total number of impressions at 100,000.

4) The median usage for A UV coating based on the three above factors would be 30 pounds or 13.6 kilograms.

Using this example, you can confidentally caculate your usage estimation by varying the number of solid pages, or total square inches solid with the total number of impressions to be printed.

It will work everytime and will be something you can value with trust.

Hi Ink Man,

What will be the difference in quality & coat thickness if UV coating done by ink duct or dampening unit or by a roller coater or a flood coater ?

The coaters will always give you the most consistent and quality of finished product. The coating thickness is also easier to apply and a heavier application can be achieved versus the print units damp or duct. D
