Targeting the folding carton market, the VariJET-106 modular single pass, sheetfed digital printing press—developed by Koenig & Bauer Durst GmbH—has been unveiled with a live demonstration, world premiere in Radebeul (near Dresden) Germany.
Koenig & Bauer and Durst first announced they had joined forces and set up an independent joint venture in 2019—Koenig & Bauer Durst GmbH. The VariJET-106 is the first product jointly developed, and combines the strengths of digital inkjet & offset printing together with inline finishing. The first units are due to be installed at pharmaceutical, cosmetic, tobacco, food industry and folding carton converter sites in Europe & America in the second half of 2022.
The VariJET-106, B1 5,500sph press combines digital inkjet & classic offset printing—based on Koenig & Bauer’s Rapida-106 platform with Durst: printhead electronics / inkjet expertise, Durst workflow and RIP technology, including Durst Analytics, Smartshop and Workflow. The new press features 7-color, water-based, food compliant inkjet technology (CMYK plus orange, green & violet), and is suitable for food applications.
